Tarlac State University and Korea Nazarene University (KNU) signed both memoranda of understanding and agreement aimed at developing academic and cultural interchanges in education and research, among others, earlier today (February 15, 2023) at the TSU Main Campus VIP lounge.
KNU is a private Christian university located in Cheonan, South Korea that aims to foster leaders with the nation’s educational philosophy and Christian spirit.
University President Dr. Arnold E. Velasco led the ceremonial signing together with KNU Taekwondo Department Chairperson Dr. Chung Young Lee and KNU Taekwondo Head Coach Prof. Hyung Jun Noh.
In his message of commitment, Pres. Velasco thanked KNU and gave assurance that TSU will uphold the terms, duties, and responsibilities stated in the contracts.
Likewise, Dr. Lee expressed his gratitude towards the university for the opportunity to collaborate and promote cultural exchange.
Other TSU officials who joined Pres. Velasco during the signing ceremony are Vice President for Academic Affairs Dr. Agnes M. Macaraeg and Dr. Jasper Jay N. Mendoza, College of Teacher Education dean and International Affairs and Linkages Office (IALO) director.
Meanwhile, Taekwondo majors Yeon Ah Yoo and Yong Ran Song also witnessed the forging of partnerships as part of the KNU delegation.
The Korean visitors, who arrived in the Philippines last February 13, actively participated in the three-day linkage program organized by IALO.
Sparring activities between the KNU black belters and the TSU Taekwondo team were held last February 13 at the Lucinda Campus covered court, while the Martial Arts Exhibition was held yesterday (February 14) at the TSU Gymnasium.
After the exhibition, the KNU delegates worked with TSU’s Bachelor of Physical Education (BPE) Department and Sports Development and Management Unit (SDMU) in training Taekwondo players of Tarlac National High School under a joint extension project.
