Tarlac State University inked a partnership with Huawei Philippines to develop practical skills for the information and communication technologies (ICT) industry through the Huawei ICT Academy on Tuesday afternoon (April 11) at the TSU Main AVR.
Huawei ICT Academy delivers ICT technologies training and lets students earn Huawei certifications while developing talents and skills needed in the industry.
Mr. Andrei Manuel, Talent Ecosystem Manager of Huawei Philippines, discussed the operations of the Huawei ICT Academy with some faculty members from the College of Arts and Social Sciences, College of Computer Studies, College of Science, College of Engineering and Technology, and the College of Business and Accountancy.
"Huawei ICT Academy is a global program initiated by Huawei worldwide. It is a CSR (corporate social responsibility) of Huawei Technologies because it is our way of giving back to the community by developing a talent ecosystem," Mr. Manuel said.
Through this partnership, TSU is appointed as a Huawei Authorized Information Network Academy (HAINA), where the university is provided with free training materials and is empowered to offer Huawei certification courses to students through the HAINA platform.
These certifications are important to a student’s credibility and expertise in their chosen field, which can be considered an investment highlighting acquired knowledge and skills.
Meanwhile, the university shall assign one laboratory with Wi-Fi access that could accommodate at least 25 to 55 students for practical skills training.
Before offering the certification courses, selected faculty members will undergo training on the use and content of HAINA via simulator software. Huawei Philippines will shoulder the training expenses per the signed agreement.
According to CCS dean Dr. Alvincent Danganan, Huawei ICT Academy will play a vital role in bridging the skills gap and preparing students as the future workforce in the industry.
He added that the opportunity would further enhance the university’s reputation and international recognition.
In his message of commitment, TSU President Dr. Arnold E. Velasco emphasized that the MOA signing is the beginning of an endeavor that will benefit both students and faculty members.
“I am very positive and confident that we will have more collaborations with you, Huawei Philippines, and that you will be of help in realizing our vision for TSU, particularly in making us known as a globally competitive [university] recognized for excellence and in all sciences and emerging technologies,” Pres. Velasco said.
