A memorandum of understanding (MOU) was signed between Tarlac State University and the Sherlock Institute of Forensic Science of India to create new opportunities and develop skills and knowledge in the field of forensic science.
The signing ceremony was held at the TSU Main AVR earlier this afternoon (April 13, 2023).
The Indian educational institution, which specializes in forensic science, has established partnerships with other Philippine universities, such as the University of the Philippines-Manila, and will have a joint conference in December with the University of Baguio and the University of Manila, according to Dr. Ranjeet Kumar Singh, Sherlock Institute of Forensic Science CEO.
"It's a great opportunity for me to sign this MOU, and I am looking forward to working with you. Again, thank you so much for giving me this opportunity," Dr. Singh said.
As the primary college that will benefit from this endeavor, College of Criminal Justice Education Dean Dr. Roel Alviar emphasized that the partnership will broaden their horizons, especially in internationalization.
"This significant and lasting MOU signing symbolizes a strong partnership, which we believe will pave the way in providing a number of opportunities, particularly for both institutions," he said.
Moreover, Vice President for Academic Affairs Dr. Agnes M. Macaraeg is looking forward to the fruition of the partnership that can further elevate the current stature of the university's criminology program.
"Given that our program in criminology is already recognized as the top one performing school in the Philippines, with your help specifically in the field of [forensics], we could do more [by] not just being known as a top one performing school in the Philippines, but as a center in the field of forensics. And that could happen if you will be with us in this endeavor," VP Macaraeg said.
Meanwhile, Dr. Marlon V. Gamido, Academic Programs Unit Head under the International Affairs and Linkages Office, shared that the activities to be undertaken include faculty and student exchange, joint seminars, and collaborative education program, among others.
"The success of this partnership relies on our mutual commitment to cooperation, collaboration, and excellence in all that we do," he said.
