To celebrate the first anniversary of the new Tarlac State University charter or Republic Act No. 11695, TSU held a series of activities today (April 11).
The university's officials, teaching and non-teaching personnel, along with students from different colleges gathered at the TSU Gymnasium to attend the Thanksgiving Mass presided by Bishop Enrique V. Macaraeg.
Moreover, a simple program was prepared during the flag-raising ceremony where the committee members who crafted the new university charter and the technical working group who polished the law's implementing rules and regulations (IRR) were awarded certificates of commendation.
In a message, TSU President Dr. Arnold E. Velasco thanked and honored the workforce behind the crafting and approval of the charter.
“Sa lahat po ng mga efforts ninyo, sa mga determinasyon na walang kupas hanggang sa matapos po ang ating new charter – maraming, maraming salamat po sa inyo," he said.
He also acknowledged former TSU president Dr. Myrna Q. Mallari, who paved the way for the charter amendment and for setting the bars for the university.
“We really commend her leadership for making TSU as [what] we have now. Maraming, maraming salamat po, Ma’am Myrna Mallari,” he added.
Furthermore, among the awardees present in the program is Board of Regents member Hon. Dennis Norman T. Go, representative of Hon. Mark O. Go. Regent Go is an honorary member of the university committee for the new university charter. He is also part of the technical working group for the charter's IRR.
“Sana po ay maging instrumento itong bagong charter sa lalong pagsulong ng ating pamantasan, makamit 'yung mga ipinaliwanag pong mission, vision, and roadmaps ng ating Pangulo kanina, at sana po ang ating charter ay magsilbing matibay na pundasyon para lalo pang tumatag at humusay ang ating Tarlac State University, mabuhay po ang TSU,” Regent Go said.
In the same way, Pres. Velasco shared his high hopes for the university to confidently face new horizons with academic competence and an empowered workforce in the coming years through the new charter.
“Magkaisa po tayo — sa damdamin, sa isip, at sa lahat ng mga hangarin for Tarlac State University. At makikita po natin, if we have that unity katulad sa ating core values — unity in diversity — lahat po ng magagawa natin sa tulong ng Diyos, Tarlac State University,” he emphasized.
The new charter, which lapsed into law on April 11, 2022, governs the university on its operations and empowers the BOR with additional powers for the benefit of the TSU community, such as the disbursement of income generated for instruction, research, extension services, or other programs and projects of TSU, among others.
It also provided an additional seat in the BOR for the non-teaching staff association and expanded the university's curricular offerings, which include the re-establishment of the Laboratory School.
Other activities conducted in the whole-day celebration include the Pistang Sayaw ng Tarlac by the TSU Performing Arts Dance Troupe, Student Talent Competition by the Supreme Student Council, Palaro ng Lahi, and several performances during the TSU Gigz.
