Tarlac State University’s Arnis Team bagged the first runner-up in the overall rankings of the 17th National Invitational Arnis Tournament or the 3rd Miguel Zubiri Cup held in Pavia, Iloilo last January 20-22, 2023.
The team garnered eight gold medals, two silver medals, and five bronze medals both in the Anyo and Combative categories.
In a Facebook post, Arnis Team faculty coach Mr. Joshua Ysmael Fontanilla thanked the university officials for their support.
“[We are] sending our warmest gratitude to our Sports Director Dr. Ligaya Gina Sarmiento Salangsang and our University President Dr. Arnold Velasco. Thank you also to Prof. Gherold Benitez, VP Agnes Macaraeg, and VP Grace Rosete,” he said.
He also expressed his gratitude to the team captains.
“Salamat sa aking dalawang kapitan, Jefferson Sapon and Christian Galang, at maging sa Alumni ng TSUAT. Pugay!” he added.
The national tourney’s champions are from the Philippine Air Force while the second runner-up spot was awarded to Dumarao-Capiz.
