The Tarlac State University Alumni Association Inc., through the Alumni Affairs Office, turned over 20 units of 55-gallon plastic drums on Thursday morning (February 9) as a temporary solution to the water scarcity concern in some buildings at the Lucinda Campus.
This move is alumni regent Hon. Reynaldo Catacutan's response to the issue raised by some faculty members and students with classes at the Academic Building, College of Science, and College of Teacher Education during the "Talakayan sa TSU" last January 27.
During the forum, it was opened up that restrooms on the upper floors of the said buildings do not have water supply.
"Bale magbibigay po kami ng isang drum sa bawat restroom dahil hirap umakyat pataas ang tubig sa matataas na floors ng buildings. Lalo na face-to-face classes na tayo ngayon, kaya maraming estudyante [ang] gagamit," TSU Alumni Affairs Office Dr. Winston Abalos said during the brief turnover program.
These drums were procured from Dau, Pampanga for 1,500 pesos each using the alumni association's fund.
Dr. Abalos said this is just a "band-aid solution" while waiting for the solar water pump to be installed on the campus with the help of Prof. Rodel Botio.
Vice President for Academic Affairs Dr. Agnes Macaraeg, who was present during the turnover ceremony, said the administration is eyeing to put up a water harvesting facility at the Lucinda campus to solve the water crisis.
