Two programs under the College of Education (COEd) underwent an on-site evaluation by the Commission on Higher Education Regional Office III - Regional Quality Assessment Team (CHEDRO III RQAT) yesterday (November 30, 2023) at the Lucinda Campus.
The CHEDRO III RQAT's evaluation leads to the Certificate of Program Compliance (COPC) issuance for the programs Bachelor of Technology and Livelihood Education (BTLED) and Bachelor of Early Childhood Education (BECED).
During the exit conference, both programs earned positive feedback with minor recommendations from the team of evaluators.
Dr. Cecilia H. Teodoro, CHEDRO III RQAT member and BECED evaluator, commended the university's efforts and affirmed the program's compliance in all areas: administration, faculty, instructional facilities, laboratories and equipment, student assistance, and curriculum.
Likewise, BTLED evaluator Dr. Elmer B. De Leon noted that the university's TLE laboratories "tremendously possess (quality) beyond expected" and recommended the program for COPC issuance.
He also shared that he was impressed with the relationship and collaboration of the BTLED with the Technical Vocational Teacher Education program.
"(In) Most schools, there is always a gap between the TechVoc (Technical Vocational) and the ProfEd (Professional Education) sides. But when I talked to the dean and the faculty members, they are really assisting. They mentioned to me that they adjust the competencies and the curriculum for education, but they are willing to give a hand. You are very lucky enough to have that kind of atmosphere," Dr. De Leon said.
He also visited the laboratories of the College of Industrial Technology at the San Isidro Campus, which are shared with the COEd programs.
Both Dr. Teodoro and Dr. De Leon advised the college to continue purchasing updated library resources and increase library collection to be used by students and faculty members as reference materials for learning plans.
Moreover, head evaluator Dr. Anna Rodessa C. Calma, Education Supervisor II, commended the campus' facilities and waste management system.
On the other hand, Dr. Efren Abulencia, Education Supervisor II, sees a bright future for the COEd with a "very alive team spirit." He lauded the college's commitment to quality education.
"With these developments, with the growing number of degree programs offered in COEd, we see TSU COEd in the future to be on deck, ready for Center of Excellence," Dr. Abulencia said.
In response, COEd Dean Dr. Jasper Jay N. Mendoza said that the college's faculty members are "truly committed" to achieving their ultimate goal to be a Center of Excellence, as they had already earned the Center of Development from CHED in 2016.
In his message, TSU President Dr. Arnold E. Velasco thanked all the people behind the event and commended the programs offered by COEd to help more students choose from the many programs offered at the university.
"We should keep taking steps in this direction for our development as one of the most sustainable universities in the Philippines," Pres. Velasco added.
Likewise, Vice President for Academic Affairs Dr. Agnes M. Macaraeg also extended her gratitude to the evaluators, the Office of Quality Assurance, and the COEd faculty.
"We are really working at the VPAA that together, we can do more, and we can do things [extraordinarily]," VP Macaraeg said.
Official results for COPC issuance are expected to be released two weeks after complying with the evaluators' minor recommendations.
As part of their 2024 agenda, COEd eyes to apply for new programs, such as Bachelor of Culture and Arts Education and BTLED major in Information and Communication Technology (ICT). (jlmm-OPA)
