In celebration of his first anniversary as university president, Dr. Arnold E. Velasco received a surprise from the College of Engineering and Technology during the flag raising ceremony at the Main Campus earlier today (April 3) hosted by the Mechanical Engineering Department.
The ME Department staged a short program in front of the Administration Building with student performances.
Pres. Velasco was installed as the sixth TSU president on April 1, 2022. He succeeded Dr. Myrna Q. Mallari's eight-year term from 2014-2022.
He is also an alumnus of the electrical engineering program of then Tarlac College of Technology (now TSU).
In his message after the performances, Pres. Velasco shared a nugget of wisdom that guides him in his leadership.
"If you want to be great, learn to be the servant of all," he said.
Moreover, he mentioned that service at TSU revolves around the students who are considered the "top clientele."
“Kayo [students] ang number one na kliyenteng dapat pagsilbihan,” he added.
He went on to reiterate that students will have a mental health break from April 3 to 5, which is after the midterm examinations week.
Also, Pres. Velasco thanked the university's Board of Regents who have delegated powers to implement more programs that will be beneficial to TSU.
The implementing rules and regulations of the new TSU charter took effect on February 3, 2023, which allowed Pres. Velasco to propose the university's new vision, mission, and core values and the new organizational structure.
These were approved by the BOR on March 24 – a week before his first anniversary as TSU president.
