The College of Arts and Social Sciences' Psychology Department underwent an onsite evaluation with the Commission on Higher Education Regional Office III-Regional Quality Assessment Team (CHEDRO III RQAT) yesterday (May 16) to determine whether the department is qualified to offer the proposed Bachelor in Human Services program.
This program is an allied course in Psychology and Guidance and Counseling.
The RQAT assessors, led by Dr. Roel Palo Anicas, evaluated the instruction, administration, and student services areas, as well as other university facilities in line with the proposed program.
Along with Dr. Anicas are Dr. Jarrent Tayag and Dr. Emmanuel Parreño who visited the Guidance and Counseling Unit's office at the Student Center in Lucinda Campus.
According to Psychology Department Chairperson Ms. Angela Christinne V. Pangilinan, the assessors were impressed with the university's facilities and faculty members' qualifications.
“They were actually amazed [by] the facilities especially doon sa Lucinda Campus at sa faculty profiles natin since lahat po ay may license at merong higher education na kino-commit ngayon”, she said.
She also shared that the department submitted the proposal to CHEDRO III in March 2023 after six months of preparation.
Dr. Agnes M. Macaraeg, Vice President for Academic Affairs and former CASS Dean, placed her full trust and confidence in the RQAT relative to the university's intent to add the Bachelor in Human Services to its program offerings.
“With the help of Dr. Parreño and the rest of the team, we may be able to pass and CHED will give us the Certificate of Program Compliance since we all know for a fact that now, the services of the Human Services [are] very much needed for we know that even internationally, the mental health illness[es] are increasing in number,” VP Macaraeg said.
CASS Dean Dr. Aloysius T. Madriaga, Psychology Department faculty members, CASS chairpersons, Quality Assurance Office officials, and the Library Management Services are also present during the assessment.
The assessors also paid a courtesy visit to TSU President Dr. Arnold E. Velasco after the closing meeting.
The evaluation results are targeted to be released before the month ends. (jlmm/OPA)
